Ioana Dumitrescu

My art reveals themes of identity, memory, time, states of mind and feminism. Also, I am drawn to documentary practices, from documentary photography to short documentary film, as well as working with experimental video.

Ioana Dumitrescu (b. 1994) is a multidisciplinary artist and she graduated from the Photography and Dynamic Image department of the National University of Art in Bucharest in 2022. Her thesis, entitled “Past Time Debris”, focuses on themes of personal space and intimacy. The artist explores ways in which the image becomes an instrument that both connects different mediums and interacts with them. Her early working techniques used the materiality of analog photography and its processuality. Later, Ioana moved towards collage, video, drawing, object-installation and working with textiles. Ioana’s goal as an artist is to create anchor objects as representations of her identity, building a past, almost dreamlike universe.
